Restoration River Ranch invites you to join us for a 2 night stay at a beautiful mountain home to participate in an intentional time to meet with God using the spiritual discipline of fasting and prayer. This discipline is new to us, but we are feeling led to step into it, along with a small group of others, to position ourselves to be hungry for the deep awareness of His presence.
Why fast? Marjorie Thompson in her book Soul Feast, suggests: “Combined with prayer, it is a potent means of making ourselves available to the cleansing, restoring, empowering grace of God.” As we’ve prayed about this gathering, it seems the desire is to first move from the busyness of our lives to a place of rest and release, from control and self-indulgence to surrender and abstinence, into confession and finally into a place of complete openness to hear the voice of our Father speak into our true identity as His beloved children.
“Fasting makes me vulnerable and reminds me of my frailty. It leads me to remember that if I am not fed I will die…Standing before God hungry, I suddenly know who I am. I am one who is poor, called to be rich in a way that the world does not understand. I am one who is empty, called to be filled with the fullness of God. I am one who is hungry, called to taste all the goodness that can be mine in Christ.” - Macrina Wiederkehr
Details:
This will be a food fast, but also a fast from a connection to the internet and perhaps if you decide, a fast from your phone entirely. The desire is giving up in order to receive. You may start the fast whenever you desire on Friday but it begins for sure when you arrive at the retreat. We will not have a meal on Friday evening. We will have coffee & juice available on Saturday morning, and share in communion late afternoon followed by a celebratory dinner together on Saturday evening.
We will provide structure for this 24 hour time, but also allow for meaningful time of personal reflection, prayer and meditation. The accommodations are very nice and we will limit the size of this gathering to ensure comfortable sleeping arrangements. Bedding, towels and toiletries are provided.
We do encourage you to bring along a journal, your Bible and perhaps other reading.
Cost: $50 per person
Please let us know if you are interested in attending and/or if you have any questions by Nov. 5, 2023. Email us at: russ.restorationriverranch@gmail.com or twylasrrr@gmail.com .
